Turnitin is an online plagiarism prevention system that makes it easy to identify work submitted that is unoriginal work.

Customized "Originality Reports" provide:

• exact duplicates of submitted papers
• underlined and color-coded text that was copied or paraphrased from the Internet or a database 
• links to the original online source of copied or paraphrased text
• the ability to determine the extent to which a work is plagiarized or is original

Submitted papers are compared to Internet content and to a database of previously submitted student papers (including other institutions across the United States using Turnitin).
