BIO112: Costa Rica Ecology
Dr. Jacqueline Washington
Experience the pura vida! Students have the opportunity to explore the most biologically diverse country on the planet from the lush canopies of the Central American rainforest to the coast of the Caribbean Sea or Atlantic Ocean. Diverse flora and fauna abound including the ancient endangered leatherback turtle. As part of the course, students will work side by side with researchers actively engaged in protecting the leatherback sea turtle, study its nesting habitat, and learn about programs and processes to protect critical ecosystems. This class also provides a dynamic exchange of ideas and student collaboration with Costa Rican students and the opportunity to explore the high canopies via zipline or the rainforest rapids.
