Miracle in Manhattan
Frequently Asked Questions
The purpose of the Nyack College Miracle in Manhattan Campaign is to promote the opportunity for people to invest in the development of a state-of-the-art educational facility that will educate and empower our growing student population. The Campaign will also meet our varied asset-building needs including construction, renovation, and furnishing of the facility. A successful Campaign will position Nyack College to be prominent in the higher education landscape; influential in its partnerships with religious, civic, and community organizations; and pace-setting as its core values are lived out.
The Campaign kicked off in November 2009 with a “Day of Prayer” for the Miracle in Manhattan, which was followed by a “quiet phase.” At this time, the Campaign name and theme were established, goals were set, leadership gifts were solicited, and prospective donors were identified. The Campaign will continue in a “public phase” for two years. During this public phase, leadership gifts will continue to be solicited and solicitation will expand to alumni and friends, inviting them to invest in the future of Nyack College.
The Campaign's goal is to raise $50 million in private support to purchase the Battery Park campus, which will make it the permanent Nyack College New York City site. This goal was established based on the needs and priorities of the college to complete the move and to fully outfit the new campus at 2 Washington Street in historic Battery Park.
Philanthropic support from alumni, friends, churches, corporations, and others is essential to the groundbreaking and innovative programs that will be offered at the new Nyack College Manhattan campus. Thousands of students have received an extraordinary education at Nyack College. Countless numbers attribute their success to the generosity of individuals who believed in the power of a Christ-centered education. Our hope is that new friends will join our longtime supporters to assure that future generations of New York City students will have access to a quality Christian education at Nyack College.
Campaign priorities grew out of the vision and strategic goals of the college. Administration, faculty, and students provided input on the features required to create a first class university campus. With more than twice the space of the current campus site located at 361 Broadway, funds will be used to construct over 50 new classrooms, four science labs, new performance quality instruments and multiple practice rooms for musicians and vocalists, a chapel, four computer labs, and much more. Gifts can be allocated to both undergraduate and graduate program support, facility enhancement, and unrestricted funds. While current use gifts are the highest priority, endowment gifts which create a permanent, reliable source of funding are also needed.
Giving to The Miracle in Manhattan Campaign is the choice of individuals who recognize Nyack College as an invaluable resource—not only for our New York City community and the United States—but for the nations of the world. The impact is already evident in the more than 28,000 Nyack alumni who are currently serving in over 80 countries.
Donors, both alumni and friends, are helping us establish a world class Christian university in the heart of the most multicultural and influential city in the world. Donor investments will enrich the lives of many people, including those who may never attend Nyack College but who will benefit, directly or indirectly, from the teaching and research of faculty and the career choices of our students. Beyond the obvious advantages of tax savings and personal financial management, donors will have the satisfaction of helping us shape a better future.
