West Point, NY – The Warriors soccer team played its’ final Spring contest on Wednesday, April 19 at West Point and came away with a 4-3 loss.  The Black Nights established their dominance in the first 17 minutes of the game by putting away 2 separate corner kicks and one goal in the run of play. They started the game totally outworking the Warriors with strength and speed of play.   Once the Nyack squad settled into the game and began to pick up the pace of play, the Warriors competed with the Black Nights.   During the half-time, the coaching staff made a few minor adjustments that led to more pressure on Army, but the real changes happened with better spacing in the central midfield led by Francois Legoedec who took on a more vocal leadership role.

Jack Henley won a key header in the box that found the back of the net to close the score to 3-1.   10 minutes later, Aaron Duran played a long crossed ball to Andrew Kupp who pulled the ball down in traffic, and blasted a screamer into the left upper corner of the goal to make the score 3-2.   Army did apply some pressure at that point, but Goalkeeper Mike Reger made key saves to hold the score.  The Black nights tallied their fourth goal on great passing through the final third to make the score 4-2.  Five minutes later, Aaron Duran drove another cross to Pablo Montes who drove a side volley into the far corner for a spectacular goal to make the score 4-3.

West Point and Nyack both used many new players in their line-ups as is usual in a Spring game and West Point’s speed and technical ability pushed the Warriors to raise their level of play.  The Warriors were very happy with the chance to play the Black Nights and saw a high level of soccer that should help propel the team for the 2017 season.
