Bach’s Birthday Bash

Dr. Marie Herseth-Kenote, Director

J.S. Bach’s birthday, his 331st, will be celebrated with performances of music by J.S. Bach, and his sons W.F. Bach, C.P.E. Bach! Performers will include Dr. Marie Herseth Kenote flute, Dr. Tammy Lum piano, Prof. Craig Williams, organ, and students.

Nyack College Chorale Concert

Friday, April 8th • 7:30 PM

Prof. Joel Jameson, Jamal Sarikoki, Conductors

The Nyack College Chorale will perform one of the greatest choral works ever written, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.  Accompanied by full orchestra, the program also includes beautiful American Folk Songs by Aaron Copland, and a short organ concerto featuring Prof. Craig Williams.

Art Series: Paintings and Pottery by Qian Ye

President’s Hall • Shuman Hall

Nyack College alumnus, Qian Ye, will present “360 Degrees,” an exhibition of her original paintings and sculptures in Shuman Hall, with its spectacular view of Hook Mountain and the Hudson River.  Presentation and Meet-the-Artist will take place on Saturday, April 9th from 12:00-1:00PM with light refreshments and live music.  For more information, visit www.qianyeart.com.

Nyack College Opera Workshop will present The Magic Flute by Mozart, fully staged in costume.  Set in ancient Egypt, The Magic Flute focuses on Tamino, a young prince, who upon hearing from the Queen of the Night that her daughter has been kidnapped, agrees to rescue Pamina.  After seeing her picture, he also hopes to eventually marry her. Tamino receives the magic flute to help him to achieve his goals.  He also meets his sidekick Papageno the bird-man who is given magic bells and together they must undergo a series of trials to prove their worthiness to marry the women they love, led by Sarastro, the “priest”.

Suggested Donation: $15 adults, $10 children, students, and seniors

Nyack String Orchestra

The Nyack College String Orchestra, comprised of students, faculty, and community instrumentalists will perform Bach’s Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring this year’s 2016 Piano Competition winner along with works by Mozart and Mahler.

Established in 1968, the Wind Ensemble is comprised of students, faculty, and community musicians performing works for concert band under the direction of Dr. Glenn Koponen.  Selections by the Nyack Handbell Choir, directed by Prof. Jennifer Scott, will also be performed.
